Steve Richard was trained by Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project in Miami in September 2015 to present the latest facts about climate change. Steve is part of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps which consists of over 11,000 leaders from around the World who have been trained by scientists and experts to give Al Gore’s latest presentation on the climate crisis.

Steve is known around the East Bay as the Founder and former President of Sustainable Lafayette. After seeing “The Inconvenient Truth” with his family in 2006, Steve co-founded the group with a friend Bart Carr. Their original inspiration was to publish sustainability success stories on a web site so that neighbors could learn from each other. That effort has grown into a thriving non-profit with a wide range of initiatives across Lafayette covering: education, greening our schools, recycling, green transportation, inspiring events, building a community garden, and much more. Besides leading Sustainable Lafayette for 9 years, Steve has also chaired the city’s Environmental Task Force and served on the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Board and Chamber Green Committee.
Prior to that Steve worked in the high-tech industry for 18 years as product marketing executive for Hewlett-Packard, Lotus, Netscape, and various startups. He also founded a VC-backed software company called ListenPoint.
Steve has lived in Lafayette with his wife Sharon for over 17 years, raising two sons that are now 24 and 20 years old.
